Letter from the Editor
Dear reader,
Welcome once again to the latest issue of Business World Australia. We’re approaching the end of an-
other year – and another Business World anniversary – and that wouldn’t be possible without your con-
tinued support, so thank you.
With this issue, we’re ramping up our ongoing focus on the MBA Building Excellence Awards, and we
have more profiles of construction excellence – from all corners of Australia – than ever.
From Perth, Western Australia, we had the opportunity to talk with Craig McLeish, the Managing Di-
rector of industry titan McLeish & Matthews. Recently, McLeish & Matthews built the largest BMW
dealership in Australia; a project recognised by the MBA as the Best Retail Building Over $10 Million,
as well as one of the top four commercial projects in the state.
We also spoke with David McGilvray in Canberra, one of the Directors and founders of both J&J In-
teriors and McGilvray Projects. He told us all about the philosophy that has guided both companies to
success, and the MBA Awards J&J Interiors took home, including one for Sub Contractor of the Year.
Those stories only scratch the surface of our builder focus this issue. On top of that, this month also
features a look at the city of Newcastle – one of the Top 10 places in the world, and Australia’s most un-
derrated city, according to the Lonely Planet travel guide. For that piece, we spoke with Lord Mayor Jeff
McCloy, who told us all about his vision for the emerging city.
For that story – and a whole lot more, from all over the country – keep flipping the pages.
All the best,
The Editorial Team
